CERARICA NODA's original SDGs story

"Towards the coexistence of people, forests, and life"
CERARICA NODA's journey began with a single phone call
In the spring of 1985, I received a phone call from JETRO (Japan External Trade Organization) informing me that animal and plant waxes were one of the items that countries around the world most wanted Japan to import, and that they would be creating an "Access Series" of import promotion materials to accelerate imports to Japan, featuring animal and plant waxes. While participating in this project and working together to create the materials, I learned for the first time that many countries were eager to export "animal and plant waxes" to Japan. So I traveled to remote areas of China, Vietnam, Cuba, Mexico, Brazil, and other countries far from Japan to see for myself and deepen my understanding
Many of the places where " CERARICA " is produced are poor areas in developing countries with harsh climates. In keeping with the Noda family's traditional altruistic philosophy, CERARICA NODA has been actively working on raw material development projects for " CERARICA " in cooperation with various governments, with the theme of "achieving both economic and environmental improvement in poor areas around the world far from Japan" by utilizing nature to plant trees and raise insects
Since 1990, we have formulated the CERARICA Concept, a 21st century vision aimed at achieving "coexistence between people, forests, and life" for the world, and have been working to put it into practice
CERARICA NODA will further expand the " CERARICA Concept" not only in Japan but all over the world, aiming to revitalize villages and towns in areas that have been left behind and are suffering from poverty, as well as promote green economic development in developing countries. Please see below for a summary of activities that could be considered the origins of the SDGs, which aim to "create a sustainable, recycling-oriented society" appropriate for the 21st century and "make all people involved happy."

Vegetable extract factory opened in Taiwan
When our late president, Yukisuke Noda, visited Taiwan to conduct a preliminary survey for the plantation of wax trees, he noticed that even though farmers in southern Taiwan were producing onions for export to Japan, they were unable to export onions that did not meet the required sizes. Since eating onions was not a local custom, he noticed that they were having trouble disposing of them.
So, in 1972, he built a new factory in Pingtung County in southern Taiwan to process onions into high-quality vegetable extracts, with the aim of buying up all of the onions before they were discarded in the fields and making effective use of them. The construction of the new factory not only successfully solved the problem of onions that had previously piled up unused in the fields, rotting and emitting a terrible odor, causing great inconvenience to farmers, but also led to the development of high-quality vegetable extracts for yakiniku sauces and instant ramen soups, which were becoming popular in Japan at the time, and contributed to the development of the food industry.

China JICA Royal Wax and Yukiro Project
Insects are the most diverse living organisms, with millions of species and having existed for hundreds of millions of years. However, apart from honeybees and silkworms that are familiar to us in our daily lives, and rhinoceros beetles and stag beetles that children love, most insects are merely annoying "nuisances" and are always targeted for "killing" with pesticides
Japan's tradition is a civilization that makes the most of what's scarce. They utilize every resource, making the most of every last bit, without waste. Furthermore, they have applied their wisdom to their daily lives, creatively expanding the scope of their uses, step by step. Like grandmother's bran bag, they have poured love into their products, resulting in the creation of many flavorful, vibrant products.
This Japanese approach led to a shift in research on scale insects, a representative pest, from the traditional approach of "killing" them to a more "living" approach, which led to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries' Insect Industry Project. This research eventually led to a CERARICA NODA and the China Academy of Forestry, China's first in the forestry sector, with the aim of resolving the difficulties facing China. This project resulted in the creation of Royal Wax and Yukiro.

Cuba Sugarcane Wax Project
Cuba is known as a sugar-producing country, thanks to its rich sugarcane cultivation history. During the American colonial period, the country not only produced sugar, but also industrialized sugarcane wax, a by-product of sugarcane production. After the Cuban Revolution, the country focused on sugar production, and the sugarcane wax industry was forgotten. The
Cuban government requested our cooperation in a sugarcane wax project, and on the first day of my visit, Director General of the Ministry of Sugar, Cuba's largest ministry, unexpectedly visited me in my hotel room. After a passionate two-hour conversation, we mutually agreed on our company's dream of enriching the local people with CERARICA , a vital wax. Since CERARICA is a highly promising resource that can also be used in high-tech fields, I proposed reviving sugarcane wax production between our company and the Cuban government. Director General Noda assured me, "Go ahead and implement the plan that President Noda envisions," and the Cuban Ministry of Sugar offered its full cooperation.
The president of our company was so impressed by the honest and sincere attitude of the top Cuban government official who invited us to lunch, and his honest and sincere attitude of respecting equality with the people, that before we knew it, he had become a big fan of Cuba, and we have continued to promote the Sugar Cane Row Project between Japan and Cuba.
Held a seminar on Life Wax = CERARICA in Hanoi, Vietnam
The day my father passed away coincided with the day the Vietnam War ended, and our company president, who had had a strong interest in Vietnam since his student days, heard that the world-renowned American scholar Vu Teng Phan would be giving a lecture at a meeting of the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Association, so he visited the venue. After the lecture, we were able to speak to him about the " CERARICA Concept."
CERARICA CERARICA unique approach to improving the environment, which involves a new concept of "making use of insects" rather than killing them for use, and its stance of aiming to lift the poor people in the producing areas out of poverty and achieve prosperity, resonated strongly with many. CERARICA
Seminar" was held in the capital, Hanoi, bringing together the highest level research institute directors in agriculture, forestry, and bioresearch in Vietnam CERARICA industry will be extremely beneficial Vietnam.

Participated as a panelist at the United Nations University World Conference on Zero Emissions
"Zero Emissions" is a future concept proposed by the United Nations University in the 1990s. It is based on an ecosystem model, and aims to skillfully combine various production sectors to utilize waste generated by individual business activities as resources for other industries, ultimately eliminating waste.
Our company president was invited to the United Nations University's "Zero Emissions World Conference" (participated by UNU Rector De Souza and proponents Fritjof Capra and Gunta Pauli). He passionately spoke about how " CERARICA " (life wax), born from the workings of nature and its virtuous cycle, essentially realizes the ideal of "zero emissions" (forests do not produce waste) and is a gift from life. His passionate speech resonated strongly with the proponents. He CERARICA
) that breaks away from the current "research on killing" insects and instead " At a lecture given by Daniel Bell and Fritjof Capra, presidents of the National Academy of Sciences, held around the same time, F. Capra highly praised CERARICA

Proposal for the World's No. 1 Beeswax Contest at the APIMONDIA World Congress
We have been conducting research into high-quality beeswax in collaboration with the Honeybee Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
In 1995, at the International Federation of Beekeeping Associations (APIMONDIA) World Congress held in Vancouver, we called on member countries around the world to hold a "World No. 1 Beeswax Contest," announcing that beeswax, as a high-tech material, would significantly improve the recording performance of compact discs. At the same time, we also announced that beeswax, a by-product that had previously been overlooked in the global beekeeping industry, would now be valued as a future resource, which became a major catalyst for revitalizing the global beekeeping industry.
