Unexpected uses for wax
September 22, 2018

We would like to introduce Sadomura Costume Store, a store specializing in kagura costumes and gold embroidery.
This is a work by Sado Village Costume Store, which supports Iwami Kagura, a traditional performing art in western Shimane Prefecture.
Iwami Kagura is a traditional performing art in which dances are performed to the cheerful sounds of drums and flutes.
The highlights are the extremely elegant costumes, masks, and a snake body larger than a human body, which fascinates viewers as they move around the stage, sometimes quietly, sometimes powerfully. (Susumu Nomura, who wrote non-fiction works such as ``I've been working for a thousand years,'' which created Japan's longevity business boom, in Shinchosha's magazine ``Nami,'' and won various awards including the Soichi Oya Nonfiction Award.) is currently writing a series focusing on Iwami Kagura.)

The photo above is a work by Sadomura Costume Store. The three-dimensional embroidery of living things made of gold thread shows various expressions depending on the angle, and attracts the viewer. The costumes are powerful yet elegant, as if they were brought to life.

Well, our company is a company that handles wax.
Do you know where our products and wax are used?

Let's take a closer look at this costume.

Do you understand?
This red thread that sews the gold thread onto the fabric is where our wax comes into play.
When sewing the gold thread onto the fabric using red thread, the friction of the red thread may damage the gold thread and cause it to lose its shine.
Therefore, by adding wax to the red thread to make it slippery, even if the red thread touches the gold thread, it is less likely to get scratched and continues to shine. When I think of the mind-bogglingly precise work being carried out over such a wide range, I am fascinated by the passion and commitment of the craftsmen who support tradition. We hope that Sado Village Costume Store will continue to pass on the traditional performing arts of Iwami Kagura to future generations and support Japanese culture.
