Research by Hiroko Nao, former Vice Governor of Okinawa Prefecture and Professor Emeritus of the University of the Ryukyus, has revealed that octacosanol is a health component that is the main reason for the longevity of Okinawans. It has also been used in popular products by major beverage manufacturers. In addition to humans, it is also known as a source of endurance for migratory birds as they cross the oceans
The History of CERARICA NODA and Sugarken Wax
The sugar industry developed in colonized Latin American countries since the Age of Discovery, which began in the 15th century. Cuba, an island nation in the Caribbean, was also a major sugar-producing region. After Cuba gained independence from Spain in the early 20th century and became a de facto American protectorate, American capital began to enter the country. This led to the production of Sugarken Wax. During the Cold War in the 1980s, our company (then Noda Wax Co., Ltd.) began joint development with the Cuban government. In 1987, we received a research team led by the director of the Cuban Ministry of Sugar's By-Products Department. In the 1990s, we developed and patented a unique refining method to eliminate the inherent odor. When Fidel Castro's eldest son and his wife visited Japan, we lit an aroma candle made with Sugarken Wax and presented it to them
